The Solheim Cup is a biennial golf tournament contested between women professional golfers from the United States and Europe. The cup is named after Karsten Solheim, who was instrumental in the start up of the event. The Solheim Cup is played over three days and play the same format as the Ryder Cup. The Solheim Cup has been played since 1990. The United States holds an 8 and 3 record over the European team.
The 2011 Solheim Cup will take place September 23 – 25 at Killeen Castle, Co Meath, Ireland. Killeen Castle will challenge the Solheim Cup participants with the mentally and physically demanding Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.
